In the supernatural occurrence that is the Universe, what I allude to as God, to fall is to end up in a predetermination you never longed for. On such events, coming up short could just ever mean you're fragile...you're human...and, need something, or Someone, more excellent than yourself to do in you what you can't accomplish for yourself. That is, to change you into that which you really are, not a trophy case loaded with overlooked achievements, not a "win" with the autos, or houses, or Oscars to demonstrate it; at the same time, a man boundlessly more awesome than anything that would grant you delight today and agony tomorrow. No, where Grace takes you is to a better fate undoubtedly.

Also, that is the means by which the little beast himself pounds you ceaselessly. Living with him can be, in the expressions of St. John of the Cross, "the dull night of the spirit." I would be crazy today were it not for the way that in my otherworldly arousing I have found in Jesus' own disappointment a gleam of individual hope...a pathway to my own predetermination. Yes, I assume, in one sense, Jesus fizzled, as did the Buddha. For a considerable length of time, the Buddha looked, yielded, and tore at his spirit to discover comfort, quietness, and fulfillment. At that point, out of the blue, one night under the Bodhi tree, a wonder happened. Freedom from the inside creature was its prize.
